Here is a portion of our conversation this evening. I was just finishing bathing C. and had S. put her feet in the tub since they had gotten a bit dirty while she was outside. Here is the conversation that followed:
S: I think this makes my legs feel better. (They were sore from riding her bike.)
Me: Good (C. giggles as I dry his hair)
S: What are you doing?
Me: I..
S: Babies laugh different than us, I mean their laughs are cool, I mean they sound cute....right Mommy?
Me: Well...
S: His hair is so cute like that. Do we get to make strawberry jelly? I meant to say jam, strawberry jam.
Me: As soon as...
S: Jam and jelly are different aren't they, I mean one is liquidy, right? (All the while her little hands are flapping up and down like the little finch that she is.)
At this point I no longer attempt to respond since I have discovered that these questions do not really represent her desire to obtain information, but instead are a means of emptying her word bank that seems to be bottomless. I know I'll miss all the chatter one day. So most of the time I try to treasure it, but for this brief moment I am enjoying the hum of the refrigerator.
That is hilarious but so very typical of her! Thanks for the laugh.
